In cooperation with West Sweden, Visit Sweden and local companies along with West Coast we can take you on a sea food safari through the Bohuslän archipelago from the Koster Islands in the north to the island of Kärringön in the south. Taste Oysters, Lobster, Crayfish, Mussels and Prawns in excellent coastal restaurants. Many of the locations feature in the prestigious White Guide, which is a guide of Sweden's best restaurants. The picturesque island of Smögen is located 1hr30 north of Gothenburg. It is connected to the main land by a bridge and is located on the Sötenäs peninsular. Check in and 2 course evening meal provided (member of the White Guide). Lobster in West Sweden is commonly referred to as 'the black gold' and this is your chance to catch your own 'black gold'! Some time to explore in the morning and after lunch (included) at Smögen Sea Lodge you will board your lobster boat with guides who have been fishing for lobster since childhood. On your return the food creators take over your catch and prepare a 5 course lobster supper and the journey continues to the table. Price from £795pp. Price is based on 4 adults and includes flights, car rental, lobster tour as detailed above, 2 nights in a double / twin room (shower / toilet in corridor) on a full board basis from evening meal on day of arrival to breakfast on day of departure. Available mid to late April, end of Sep to end of Nov. Min 2 people. West Sweden - Sea Food Extravaganza This tour is just a suggestion and you can pick as many you like! Day 1 to 3 - Crayfish on the Koster Islands
Drive to Strömstad (1hr45 north of Gothenburg) close to the Norwegian border. Park your car and catch the passenger ferry (not included - approx. £6pp one way) to the car free Koster Islands and Hotel Syd Koster Ekenäs. Check in and 2 course evening meal provided at the hotels' White Guide restaurant. The boat departs after lunch (included) from the quay side just 50m from Hotel Ekenäs. After a short journey through the beautiful coastal landscape, the boat anchors west of the Koster Islands. The shellfish pots are pulled up; usually a chain of around 30 pots. The pots are then re-baited with salt herring, and returned to the ocean. You continue your journey to a boathouse on Koster, where the crayfish are cooked and you get to sample this delicacy from West Sweden. Your catch is then taken to Restaurant Strandkanten on Nordkoster, where you eat the crayfish you have caught with suitable accompaniments. You will then be taken back to the hotel on Ekenäs-Sydkoster. Day 3 to 4 - Oysters in Grebbestad
Grebbestad and West Sweden are famous for the quality of the oysters that grow in this region. Every year there is a large oyster opening competition in Grebbestad. Grebbestad is just 90mins north of Gothenburg and overnight accommodation is provided at Grebbestadfjorden in en suite double / twin rooms on a bed and breakfast basis. During the afternoon there is a 2hr oyster opening course where you will pick your own oysters. There is a specific art to opening oysters and you will be taught the perfect way to open the shell hiding the delicacy inside. You will taste up to 5 oysters. Available all year round. Min 4 people. Day 4 to 5 - Mussels on Käringön
Leave your car in Hälleviksstrand and take the boat (not included - cost is approx £6pp one way) to the historic island of Käringön, which has some of the oldest fishing traditions in Bohuslän. Lunch will be provided on arrival and then you will visit one of the picturesque bays on the island and pick your own Blue Mussels and Japanese Oysters. If the weather allows there will also be opportunities for sunbathing and swimming, a very Swedish summer tradition! When the buckets are full, you head back to port where the chef is waiting. You take part in the cooking, and enjoy the delicacies immediately, complemented by home-baked bread. Overnight accommodation is at Käringön Hotellet (en suite) in double / twin rooms.
