The Big Five out of the Big Blue
West Sweden is widely recognised as producing some of the finest sea food in the world. In cooperation with West Sweden, Visit Sweden and local companies along with West Coast we can take you on a sea food safari through the Bohuslän archipelago from the Koster Islands in the north to the island of Kärringön in the south. Taste Oysters, Lobster, Crayfish, Mussels and Prawns in excellent coastal restaurants. Many of the locations feature in the prestigious White Guide, which is a guide of Sweden's best restaurants. Day 1 to 3 - Crayfish on the Koster Islands
Drive to Strömstad (1hr45 north of Gothenburg) close to the Norwegian border. Park your car and catch the passenger ferry (not included - approx. £6pp one way) to the car free Koster Islands and Hotel Syd Koster Ekenäs. Check in and 2 course evening meal provided at the hotels' White Guide restaurant. The boat departs after lunch (included) from the quay side just 50m from Hotel Ekenäs. After a short journey through the beautiful coastal landscape, the boat anchors west of the Koster Islands. The shellfish pots are pulled up; usually a chain of around 30 pots. The pots are then re-baited with salt herring, and returned to the ocean. You continue your journey to a boathouse on Koster, where the crayfish are cooked and you get to sample this delicacy from West Sweden. Your catch is then taken to Restaurant Strandkanten on Nordkoster, where you eat the crayfish you have caught with suitable accompaniments. You will then be taken back to the hotel on Ekenäs-Sydkoster.

During the afternoon there is a 2hr oyster opening course where you will pick your own oysters. There is a specific art to opening oysters and you will be taught the perfect way to open the shell hiding the delicacy inside. You will taste up to 5 oysters. Available all year round. Min 4 people.Day 4 to 5 - Mussels on Käringön
Leave your car in Hälleviksstrand and take the boat (not included - cost is approx £6pp one way) to the historic island of Käringön, which has some of the oldest fishing traditions in Bohuslän.
