West Coast of SwedenThis captivating coastline is scattered with hundreds of barren islands, rocky inlets and picturesque fishing villages. With the abundance of seafood - oysters, lobsters and fish are served in gourmet dishes along the coast and crayfish are an August specialty. Here at Simply Sweden we have designed a short tour to show you the very best and most diverse areas of this coastline. You will visit Gothenburg in the South, visit the Bohuslän archipelago and spend some time on the car free Koster Islands close to the Norwegian border. Please remember this tour is designed to feed your imagination. We tailor make all our holidays so you can lengthen or shorten your tour and choose where you stay in West Sweden from our list of West Sweden hotels. Itinerary Day 1 to 3 Gothenburg
Spend 2 nights at the city centre 4 star Park Avenue Hotel, including 48 hour Gothenburg Passes for all guests. Gothenburg is Sweden’s second biggest city and the gateway to West Sweden. One of the real joys of Gothenburg is its maritime locations. The local archipelago is made up of a myriad of islands with gently rounded rocky shores. They range from large inhabited islands to tiny, barren islets, and make it a very attractive summer destination.
Day 3 to 4 Lighthouse Keeper on Paternoster
Public transport along the West Coast of Sweden is well integrated and one of the simplest ways to explore this stunning archipelago. There is a direct bus (just 50mins) from Gothenburg to Marstrand where your boat will be waiting for you. The boat takes you round many bare islands of the inner archipelago before heading out into open water and the outer islands of Pater Noster. This historical lighthouse, marking the opening of this impressive archipelago, dates from 1868. You go to Paternoster for the fresh winds, beautiful sunsets and the unique environment. The 'lighthouse keeper' package includes boat transport to the islands, champagne and oyster tasting in the lighthouse, an evening meal served as an outstanding sea food buffet, overnight in comfortable en suite double / twin rooms, scandinavian breakfast buffet and return boat journey.
Available May to September on Saturday evenings.
Day 4 to 7 Koster Islands
in the morning you will return to Marstrand and once again use the well integrated public transport to reach Strömstad for your ferry to the Koster Islands. Total time between Marstrand and Strömstad is approx 3hrs. The first Marine National Park in Sweden was inaugurated in September 2009 around the Koster Islands on the West Coast of Sweden. You will stay on the car free Koster islands at the Sydkoster Hotel. The passenger ferry to Sweden's most westerly populated islands terminates just 100m from your hotel. Attractions include this unique seaside location, beaches, rocky islands and of course the magic “Koster light”, which has inspired many artists on the island. Renting a bike and a guided tour are strongly recommended so you can appreciate all that is surrounding you. We can also arrange a local cray fishing tour where you sample your catch at one of the islands restaurants.
Price from £1150 per person based on 2 adults
