The Soul of Lapland (Inlandsbanan)
An educational train journey through Swedish Lapland, discovering how modern living and Sami traditions interact in the fascinating culture of the Sami.

Day 1 - UK to Stockholm Fly from London to Stockholm, stay at the Columbus Hotel *** and take this opportunity to explore this wonderful city on water. You may decide to travel a day or two earlier to see more of Stockholm and Stockholm Archipelago.
Day 2 - Stockholm to Mora Take the train between Stockholm and Mora on the shores of Lake Siljan, created by a meteor impact 365 million years ago. Mora is home to the worlds largest cross country ski race 'Vasaloppet', held every February. In the summer the sun warms the lake and bathing is a popular summer pastime at the city centre beach.
Day 3 - Mora to Östersund The train passes many water features on the way but the waterfalls at Strostupet and Helvetesfallet are worthy of note. Short stops for coffee and lunch allow you to explore the nature close to the railway line. A guided tour of Östersund, Frösön and the Moose Garden in Orrviken are included. Östersund has much to offer everyone; historical walks, little churches, adventure pools, quad biking and much more.
Day 4 - Östersund to Slagnäs (Arjeplog) Pass steams and lakes bursting with fish, you may have the chance to try your luck! From Slägnäs you will be escorted to the Båtsuoj Sami Centre, where traditional cultures can be experienced. An authentic meal is served in a Sami tee-pee during which you will hear about Sami myths and legends. You will also meet reindeer and learn about farming in the wilderness.
Day 5 - (Arjeplog) Arvidsjaur to Jokkmokk The region surrounding Arvidsjaur has 12,000 lakes and 30,000 reindeer. A guided bus tour, including lunch, to Arjeplog with its rich Sami heritage including the Silver Museum, home to the largest collection of silver in the Nordic region. Continue on the Inland Railway in the afternoon before crossing the Arctic Circle reaching the area of 24hr sunshine during the summer and 24hr darkness in the winter.
Day 6 - Jokkmokk to Gällivare Almost the whole day is spent in the Sami rich town of Jokkmokk. You will visit the Swedish Mountain, Sami Museum Ajtte, Jokkmokk's Tenn and the Mountain Farm. Taking the evening train you will pass through national parks and the Laponia World Heritage area. Once in Gällivare a coach will be waiting for those who wish to see the midnight sun from the top of Dundret mountain.
Day 7 - Gällivare to Stockholm Airport At this point you may decide you wish to continue exploring Swedish Lapland and the experts at Simply Sweden are here to offer their experience and advice. This holiday concludes with another spectacular train journey as you will have a private cabin on the overnight train to Stockholm Arlanda airport.
Day 8 - Return to the UK Arrive at Stockholm Arlanda Airport and catch your flight back to the UK.

Price includes Flights from the UK to Stockholm. All rail transport day 2 to day 8 with reserved seats. Bed and breakfast with private facilities day 1 to 7. Excursion to the moose garden, visit to Båtsuoj including light meal, Silver Museum including lunch, Ajtte, Swedish Museum and Sami Museum in Jokkmokk, outing to Dundret Mountain. Activities may be subject to change.
