Timber Rafting

Spend 4 nights (approx 30 miles) or 7 nights (approx 60 miles) rafting along Sweden’s longest river where logging was a major part of local life. In 1991 the last logs drifted along the river, as trains and lorries began to take the strain. Since this time the tradition has continued in the form of timber rafts and now you have the opportunity to see some of Sweden’s very best unspoilt nature. You may see wild animals including elk, roe deer, badgers and beavers.

Picturesque towns and villages line the river so you can  moor up and explore these fascinating old churches, abandoned cabins and local craft shops, all of which have a story to tell!

You will be provided with all the equipment required to build your raft, lifejacket, kitchen equipment, food, sleeping bag, mattress and a tent. You will be given expert guidance and tuition in the safe construction of your timber raft, which will weigh nearly 2 tonnes upon completion!

Itinerary

Prior to arrival

Fly into Stockholm collect your hire car and stay at the impressive manor house of Hennickehammars Herrgård. Just a short drive from Gunnerud and the meeting place for your rafting adventure.

Day 1

After arrival in Gunnerud you receive your introduction and safety briefing for your adventure and the next few days enjoying the tranquil, idyllic scenery of Värmland. Overnight in a tent.

Day 2

Upon arrival at the the departure site, you build your raft under the expert guidance of your instructors. All aboard, off we go! Enjoy the pristine countryside, sit back, relax enjoy, swim or try you luck at fishing.

Day 3 to arrival in Gunnerud

After arriving in Gunnerud you depart with life long memories of this adventure in nature’s playground.  Drive to Hennickehammars Herrgård where you can enjoy the luxury of your hotel room, the jacuzzi, a sauna and let someone else do the cooking!

Notes

We tailor make each holiday to your individual request. On this holiday departures from Gunnerud are on Sundays, Mondays or Wednesdays in June, July and August. Friday departures are also available between 6^th July and 10^th August. All hotel accommodation includes breakfast. The rafting adventure is self catering but food is provided. Minimum of 2 adults per raft. Prices based on London departure and on 4 passengers per raft. All holidays subject to availability.
