Itinerary

Days 1 - 3 Jopikgården (Half Board)

Fly from the UK to Luleå via Stockholm (options for some nights in Stockholm). Meet and greet transfer to the edge of the beautiful Luleå archipelago. Located on beautiful Hindersön island is Jopikgården, a charming family guest house. The restaurant is renowned for fine dining and local foods and has a bustling trade on the weekends from locals driving out on the ice roads to take coffee and waffles with berries and ice cream. The hotel has four exclusive rooms all with en suite facilities on the second floor and these are new and well renovated in a traditional scandinavian style. The style of the guest house is a traditional swedish farm house and the walls abound with photos from days past when seal hunters and fishermen lived on these island to etch out a living in a harsh but beautiful environment.
Depending on the conditions your transfer to and from Jopikgården will be by snowmobile and sled or minibus. Local activities which can be booked locally include snowmobiles, huskies and ice fishing. Here at Simply Sweden we highly recommend the hovercraft tour below.

Optional excursion during your stay at Jopikgården

Here at Simply Sweden we do strongly recommend you book our popular hovercraft tour to the pack ice. Anders and Anna live on the island of Hindersön so your transfer is very short!
Following a short safety briefing it's time to step inside the hovercraft. It's a little noisy in there but communication is easy through the intercom. A guided tour of the archipelago as you head out to the pack ice hovering 30cm above the ice. No one quite knows where it will be or what it will look like as the wind and ice movement can change daily. After some photos and time to take in the scenery you'll head to a little log cabin located on a island for a delicious lunch hosted by Anna. If conditions for pack-ice are not ideal then the islands of Kluntarna and Brändöskär with small idyllic fishing-villages offer a great alternative. With a little luck you may see seals and sea eagles!

Days 3 - 6 Aurora Retreat (Full Board)

Transfer from Jopikgården to Luleå train station. A picturesque 4hr train journey through the snowcovered forests of Swedish Lapland to Kiruna and a warm welcome and transfer (1hr30) from Kiruna Train Stn to Aurora Retreat. Keep your eyes open and the camera close by. There is a good chance of seeing moose and reindeer along the way as this is Sami country!

Recommended Activities at Aurora Retreat
Northern Lights Walk
A guided night walk in search of the magical Northern Lights. Enjoy a warm drink under the beautiful lapland night sky, and, with luck, the Northern Lights will dance above.

Husky Sled Lunch Tour
Drive your own husky team through ancient forests in Swedish Lapland. Together with an experienced guide you will prepare the dogs and glide silently over brilliant white snow on a tour of about 35km (4-5hrs). A wilderness lunch is included

Recommended Activity - Sami & Reindeer
The Sami are the indigenous people of Lapland, spread across Norway, Sweden and Finland. Traditionally the Sami head to the mountains during the summer months and down to the shelter of the forests during the winter. During this lunch time excursion you will meet a reindeer herder and his reindeer, learn about his way of life and try your hand at some Sámi skills. The Sami Lunch in a “laavu”, Sámi tent.

Day 6
Take your time over breakfast before your transfer back to the airport and your flight back to the UK.
