Together with our partners in Swedish Lapland we have designed an activity holiday designed to give you a taste of what Swedish Lapland has to offer. Activities, cuisine & culture play an important part of any holiday to Lapland, especially over the Christmas period where a traditional Swedish Julbord (Christmas Table) is included.

Your host at the Aurora Safari Camp is Fredrik Broman, a professional night time photographer. The Aurora Safari Camp has been inspired by Fredrik's time in Africa and the indigenous Sami of Lapland.

Itinerary

29Dec
Morning flight at 1035 from Heathrow to Kiruna Airport via Stockholm. Land in Kiruna and transfer to Ripan.

Ripan - Kiruna (Lapland)

Ripan is perfectly located in the capital of Lapland, Kiruna. It is just 10 minutes walk from the city centre where ice festivals and seasonal markets are well worth a visit. Ripan is just steps away from snow covered forests, stunning white wilderness and shy wildlife making this the perfect winter escape from hustle and bustle of large British cities. Ripan is just a 30 minute transfer from ICEHOTEL, so you may want to combine a stay here with some time at ICE HOTEL or quite simply enjoy an excursion to this magical structure of ICE?

Accommodation is modern and comfortable in individual hotel standard cabins, or stuga (as the Swedish call them!). All cabins have a bathroom with shower and WC, drying area, cable TV and telephone. The generous breakfast buffet and your evening meals are served in the cosy restaurant. There are also family cabins with 1 double bedroom and a smaller bedroom with bunk beds, perfect for a family of 4 with children of all ages. These cabins have recently been refurbished to include a fridge, microwave / oven and small hob. Ripan has a fine restaurant, and like most Swedish restaurants, the ingredients are sourced locally and in tune with the passing seasons. The wine cellar is always heavily stocked with the perfect compliment to your meal.

A morning at leisure or perhaps time for an activity. 1330 departure for Sörbyn. Arrival at approx 1700 for a 5 course evening meal and hopefully a full display of Northern Lights dancing across the night sky.

Sörbyn Lodge - Lapland

There are 3 reasons to come to Sörbyn Lodge. The first is this is the home town of some of the most respected wilderness guides in Swedish Lapland. The second is Sörbyn serves outstanding food, attracting locals from miles around. The restaurant draws inspiration from Lapland and uses local ingredients including fish, moose, reindeer and the famous cloud berry. You will find a comfortable and cosy hotel room or cabin with a homely feel in front of the open fire in the lounge.

The third reason is the Northern Lights! This is the area of Swedish Lapland where Simply Sweden saw the best multi-coloured Northern Lights show of 2013!

Aurora Safari Camp - Lapland

Join professional Northern Lights Photographer Fredrik Broman or one of his colleagues at the Aurora Safari Camp deep in the magical snow covered forests of Swedish Lapland, in the middle of the Aurora zone, for fun in the snow! This is the region where Simply Sweden witnessed one of the best Northern Lights displays of 2013 – and we saw lots of Northern Lights in 2012_13! Fredrik has travelled the world with his profession and he has drawn inspiration for his Aurora Safari Camp from Africa and the indigenous Sami.

Your stay at the Aurora Safari Camp is about understanding and enjoying the snow. During your stay you will be provided with warm outer clothing (hat, snowmobile suit, mittens and boots) and head out to the camp by snowmobile and trailer. The camp can accommodate up to 10 people in warm laavus with comfortable beds and arctic sleeping bags. The tents are heated so no matter what the temperature is outside it will be a comfortable +5C inside and even warmer in your thick sleeping bag! Meals are served in the larger communal laavu and the bathroom facilities (with eco-toilet) are just 30m from the tents.

Fredrik is a professional night time photographer, specialising in the stars and the Northern Lights. If you have an SLR camera and a tripod, bring them along for some expert photography tips during the evening. There is no light pollution and there is an unobstructed view of the northern skies.

Wake up in your cosy heated laavu in your thick sleeping bag. Breakfast and time for a short excursion before heading to Sörbyn for lunch. Perhaps an afternoon activity.

Relaxing breakfast and transfer to the airport for your flight at 1310.
