Small and Personal - Norway

2 gems in Northern Norway. Come and stand on the edge of the world as you look out across the Barents Sea from Kongsfjord.

Overview

A holiday of relaxation!

Experience the magic of some of the most incredible places in Northern Norway. Kongsfjord Guest House and Sollia Guest House are in remote parts of Northern Norway and offer small scale genuine activities in beautiful locations.

Sollia Guest House is in Kirkenes on the border between Norway and Russia. Since WWII there is a special relationship between the Russians and Norwegians in this part of northern Europe as the Russians saved Kirkenes from the Germans - something that will never be forgotten. Enjoy the food and company at Sollia Guest House, plus a fabulous husky excursion with a team of 4-legged friends.

When you stand at the end of the Veines peninsular at Kongsfjord, it is like standing on the edge of the world. Look north and the next stop is the North Pole. We recommend a snow shoe walk (guided or non-guided) in this remote part of northern Norway.

Kongsfjord is not one of the most accessible places and you won’t find many tourists in the area. The locals treat the local airline as a bus service and it is very much part of the local way of life - an essential part of your holiday in northern Norway.

Accommodation

Kongsfjord Guest House - Kongsfjord

Wake up in the stunning surroundings of Kongsfjord and the Veines Peninsular. This is one of the hidden gems in Northern Norway, offering sheer wilderness, sheer beauty and sheer emotion when you see how the locals earn a crust, live and survive in such a beautiful yet hostile part of the world. You have to like nature, like being outdoors and not be afraid of the weather to enjoy Northern Norway. Nothing is predictable except the unpredictability of the weather!

Kongsfjord is a family run guest house and Åse is your host. She was born and grew up in the houses that are now part of Kongsfjord Guest House. All the rooms are en-suite or have a private shower / WC. There is a part of Åse in the guest house as she has carefully renovated and put her heart and soul into each house. Her partner, Tryggen, is the chef and an expert in local traditional food. You will be surprised by the international community that has settled in Kongsfjord, but you will soon understand why.

Come and stand on the edge of the world with Simply Sweden in Kongsfjord.

Simply Sweden Recommends
Relax and enjoy! Take a snow shoe walk to the edge of the world and look out across the ocean. Dive or snorkel in Kongsfjord with an abundance of sea life. Try copper etching with your talented teacher Claudia - the prints are framed with old wood from the guest house and her talents are displayed at the guest house.

Sollia Guest House - Kirkenes

Guest House
There is a very special atmosphere around Sollia. Perhaps it's the history from WWII and the very special relationship that now exists between the Russians and the Norwegians in the immediate area (this pre-war guest house is only 500m away from the border and 15min drive from the centre of Kirkenes). Perhaps it's the amazing husky excursion Simply Sweden took part in during our time in Kirkenes, or perhaps it's being so close to the edge of Europe and the wonderful nature. You decide.

Sollia offers warm and cosy accommodation on the edge of Europe and deep inside the Arctic Circle. Accommodation is in simple en-suite double / twin rooms or rustic log cabins separate from the guest house. Sollia is home to a small husky kennel and you will find an eager team of huskies desperate to show you round their wilderness home. Locally you can rent the Jacuzzi, some snow shoes or skis or book alternative activities depending on the weather. Simply relax and enjoy.

Their famous restaurant attracts guests from the entire region and boasts global leaders and royalty as previous guests.

Wilderness Camp - Optional
A fabulous, relaxing and scenic wilderness camp under the arctic skies where you can open your eyes to this special part of our world.

Your transfer by ATV & sled departs at 5.30pm from Sollia Guest House. These large tents are warmed by a cosy log fire and this is a place to simply listen to noises of nature. Your guide will be with you for the duration of your stay at the wilderness camp and snowshoes are available so you can explore some more. You return to Sollia at approx. 9.30am.

The tents are warmed by a cosy log fire and you wrap up in arctic sleeping bags. Wilderness evening meal and breakfast included. Warm outer clothing included.
