Geriranger Fjord Panorama - 2 (2B)
This is a compelling opportunity to experience Norway’s – and the world’s – magnificent fjords. Set off on one of the most beautiful stretches of road – ideal for anyone yearning for the path less travelled.
Ascend Ørneveien (Eagle Road), taking in its sweeping embrace of sky and mountains and waterfalls and stop for photographs before heading on to Linge. Along the way, witness the power of the river as it cuts through Gudbrandsjuvet gorge, before you reach the stark and wild, high mountain tops where you can relax.
Descending down the dizzying Trollstigen Road, negotiate through all 11 hairpin twists and turns. Once safely at the bottom, it is time for refreshments and a bite to eat before continuing on to the gentler landscape of Romsdalsfjord.
You will be afforded a marvellous view of the mountains and fjord – the pride of Molde. Enjoy dinner at a hotel in Molde before rejoining the Hurtigruten ship. The Geirangerfjord region was recently designated a World Heritage Site by UNESCO and it is still little known and visited, remaining pristinely wild.

Nidaros Cathedral & Ringve (3A)
Trondheim is Norway's third largest city and retains intimacy and charm with roots back in 997AD. Nidaros is Norway’s only Gothic-style Cathedral and was built over the burial place of St. Olav, the country’s patron saint. The incredible architectural details and fantastic art of this national treasure are truly impressive. 
From Nidaros Cathedral, the bus takes you directly to another cultural gem in the capital of Trøndelag – the Ringve Museum of Musical History. This handsome manor museum was the childhood home of Norwegian naval hero Petter Wessel Tordenskiold and it is surrounded by an idyllic botanical garden offering beautiful views of Trondheim and the fjord.
Inside the museum, guides take you on a musical journey through history, where you will see and hear many instruments you most likely have never seen or heard before. This is a delightful and unique display of special instruments from every corner of the world and a truly memorable experience.

Sverresborg Trøndelag Folk Museum (3C)
The museum surrounds the ruins of the medieval castle of Zion, built by King Sverre Sigurdsson in 1182 – 83. Here, you will find Norway’s northernmost stave church and learn what life was like, in town and country, in the 18th to 20th centuries. 
Begin your walk through history at the simple but beautiful Haltdalen stave church, built in 1170, when Norway was still a Catholic country. The tour continues past the castle ruins, with sweeping views across the Trondheimsfjord, to a yard surrounded by wooden buildings: farmhouse, cowshed and barn, traditional storehouse on pillars, cookhouse and smithy. 
Tour the farmhouse and then continue to the “Old Town,” with historical buildings from the centre of Trondheim. Visit the beautiful 18th century Gramgården for a taste of traditional krumkake cakes and tales of old Trondheim. 
The tour ends at the visitor centre, to view the “Pictures of Life” exhibition – illustrating life in Trøndelag over the last 150 years – and its shop, stocked with a selection of high-quality handicrafts, such as linens, ceramics and a selection of books and cards.

Trondheim City Walk (3D)
The harbour was developed during the second half of the 19th century, and you start your walk here at the quay. You walk up to “Stiftsgården”, the royal residence in Trondheim, and continue to the market square to take a closer look at the statue of the city’s founder, Olav Tryggvason, which towers over this busy square. From here, we continue to Nidaros Cathedral, the national monument of Norway. 
Cross the old city bridge with its red gateway, which the locals call “the portal of happiness”, and enter the area of the city called Bakklandet, which has managed to preserve its charming wooden architecture. Here, you find the world’s one and only bicycle lift.  Originally this was the industrial part of the city, but now the old factories have become desirable housing surrounded by small shops and restaurants.

Glacier Adventure - Svartisen (4A)
After setting sail for Ørnes, about half an hour before reaching the port, the ship stops to allow the participants of the excursion to transfer to another, smaller vessel. This versatile vessel then slips easily between islets and skerries.
The most impressive views along the way are best enjoyed on deck. Be sure to bring your camera because this icy world is the domain of sea eagles. 
Svartisen is Norway’s second largest glacier and has been attracting tourists for well over a hundred years. You are aboard the vessel for a little over an hour before going ashore. 
Arriving at Svartisen Tourist Centre, we admire the beauty of the ice world whilst enjoying a hot beverage and varied selection of cakes. The journey beyond this point travels along the very pretty Helgeland Coast where you have close-up views of the local community. 
You travel by modern express boat and the guide keeps you well informed about this awesome, timeless landscape. Continue onward to Bodø, where you rejoin your Hurtigruten ship.

RIB Safari - Saltstraumen (4D)
Starting on the pier in Bodø, you are provided with all the necessary safety equipment and attire to enjoy the journey to Saltstraumen, the world’s most powerful tidal current.
Board sturdy, comfortable rubber rafts and set course at a good clip (weather permitting) for the tidal current. The sea rafts are operated by highly experienced, knowledgeable pilots and on this adventurous journey through a wild and rugged landscape, navigate the rocky shore of the world’s largest cod fish farm and the Caledonian belt fold – mountains older than 250 million years.

Arctic Capital - Tromso (5A)
As the largest town above the Arctic Circle, Tromsø reveals many modern urban pleasures as well as a trading and seafaring history of hunting for walrus and polar bears off Svalbard and East Greenland, transporting logs from Russian rivers, the Pomor seafaring trade, coal mining and sealing.
Age-old battles of surviving in a harsh Arctic world and a natural resource-rich far north have provided hard-earned lessons that have turned Tromsø today into an advanced research and education centre.
During this excursion you will visit the Polaria Centre. This Arctic education centre features an aquarium, educational displays and a panorama theatre screening room. After a short panoramic film about this part of Norway, experience the centre’s Arctic “expedition” to learn more about the Northern Lights, tundra, blizzards, polar bears and seals.

Scenery & Huskies - Tromso (5C)
If you love animals, this is the trip for you, as you get to greet 250 very happy huskies and cuddly puppies and are informed about the challenges of dog sledging. 
Learn about Iditarod, Alaska – the world’s longest dog-sledge race, through film and pictures, glimpse how daring the race is for dogs and mushers alike.

The North Cape (6A)
Cross the 71st parallel. Some thing few can claim! The northern most point of the European continent.
This is Finnmark, a fascinating region of Sami, Russian and Finnish overlapping cultures. In summer, you may see herds of grazing reindeer and Sami camps, while during this exotic winter journey, you might find yourselves following a snowplough for the final eight miles up to this world famous cliff. 
The North Cape plateau rises more than a thousand feet – almost vertically – from the icy cold Arctic Ocean. North Cape Hall is an inviting, modern interpretive centre where we can freely enjoy a wide-panorama movie about Finnmark and the North Cape, buy souvenirs, see displays and relax with a bite of food.

Bird watching Safari - Finnmark
The heart of Norway's Sami culture and ideal for bird watchers. Touch upon the little fishing hamlet of Gjesvær (population only about 120) and then journey on toward North Cape. Along the way, you will receive an introduction on the local flora and fauna.
You are en route to one of the world’s most exciting and stunning nature reserves, Gjesværstappan, which is almost 16 km west of North Cape and encircled by the Arctic Ocean.
From the vessel study Finnmark’s largest flock of puffins and large numbers of kittiwakes. During the nesting season, the air and ground teem with life. Mighty sea eagles with massive wingspans hover above in search of prey, while guillemots, razorbills, cormorants, Arctic skuas, northern fulmars, Brünnich’s guillemots and the large northern gannet dive about, filling the air with a cacophony of shrieks and screeches.
If you can join us in the autumn months, you may also catch sightings of Europe’s smallest seabird, the British storm-petrel.Weather and time permitting, the tour makes a stop at the crew’s secret favourite places. This is where there is often a good chance of seeing seals swim and play around the boat. This is a memorable and fun trip for the entire family.

A Taste of Lapland (6C)
Discover the exciting history of Norway’s multi-ethnic Arctic coast on this fascinating and informative excursion in Finnmark, along Europe’s northernmost shores.
Today’s excursion starts with a drive through the fishing village of Kjøllefjord, where we stop to take pictures. You continue through Kjøllefjord and up to the highland summer camp of the Utsi family, traditional Sami reindeer herders. Dressed in local costume, the Utsis invite you into their lavvo (traditional tent) to enjoy reindeer bouillon and coffee while listening to Sami joiks, or songs and learning to count in Lappish.
Afterward, visit their reindeer – and even try throwing a traditional lasso. You then head to the Finnmark Plateau, a grey stone desert some 985 feet above sea level. Here, you may spot herds of freely grazing reindeer.
On the way to Mehamn, the next port, your guide explains Arctic flora, fauna and geography, ocean currents, the Polar Night and the Midnight Sun and how locals make use of nature in summer and winter.

The Russian Border - Kirkenes (7A)
Kirkenes is the only town in Norway where East meets West – and it is also the turning point of the Hurtigruten. On this exploratory excursion, you travel to the Russian border. Start with a short tour of Kirkenes before going farther afield, travelling by bus through surprisingly fertile landscape. You will see charming green hills dotted with scrub, birch and pine that survive despite the harsh Arctic climate.
The history of the region is truly stimulating and has been quite dramatic at times, so this is an educational morning as well. You eventually arrive at Storskog, the border station between Norway and Russia.
While you cannot cross the border into Russia, you are permitted to take pictures and video. It is often possible to buy Russian crafts at the border such as charming, hand painted matryoshka nesting dolls.
We visit Bjørnevatn, a small mining community, before heading towards Pasvikdalen. This area is very vigorous, with green hills and trees. We make a photo stop on a hill with a wonderful view of the area.
This is a fascinating excursion with knowledgeable guides and perfect for travellers interested in Scandinavian and Russian history and culture.

ATV / QUAD Safari
On arrival at Kirkenes you will be met by a local guide who will provide an introduction to the excursion before you drive up to Kjerringstupet viewpoint to view the settlements located here more than 10,000 years ago.
Drive through the town centre and stop at the AS Sydvaranger mines, where a short history will be presented before heading on to the Norwegian - Russian border by Skafferhullet/Elvenes. At the border, your guide will tell you about the history and culture of the area.
Make a stop at a Norwegian military watch tower, still manned from time to time, from where you can see Boris Gleb on the Russian side. You will go to see the official border crossing to Russia at Storskog, with time to stop for coffee/tea and muffins. There is also the opportunity to buy local souvenirs here. Return to Kirkenes via Prestefjellet viewpoint, overlooking the town and harbour where the ship docks.

Southbound

Breakfast at the North Cape (8A)
While most of your co-passengers on board the Hurtigruten ship are still sleeping soundly under their covers, you can board a bus bound for Honningsvåg to visit the North Cape and large tracts of West Finnmark.
Do not be put off by the tour’s early departure time: mornings at North Cape are very special, 1,000 feet above the churning Arctic Ocean, with dazzling sunlight dancing across the horizon. At North Cape – the very tip of the European continent – enjoy a hearty breakfast and view a spectacular panorama film about North Cape and the region showing the scenery all four seasons.
Continuing on, make a short stop to visit a Sami family for an opportunity to meet reindeer. When you return to Honningsvåg, drive through an underwater tunnel connecting the town with the mainland.
The bus then heads south along the majestic Porsangerfjord. From there, you turn toward the coast and Hammerfest, which has undergone a dramatic change since it became the host municipality of the high-tech offshore Snøhvit gas field project. It is here in Hammerfest – the world’s northernmost town – where you rejoin the Hurtigruten. This is an all-encompassing excursion that combines wildlife, culture, spectacular and unusual scenery and a visit to the top of the world.

A taste of Vesterålen (9A)
Harstad to Sortland is one of Hurtigruten’s classic excursions and exemplifies why passengers are so enthusiastic about these excursions.
The trip begins in Harstad, where you begin the morning with a little sightseeing through the town streets and then stop at a viewpoint. A few kilometres outside town, in Trondeneshalvøya, stands the white medieval church, Trondenes Kirke. In addition to housing several art treasures, the church is a premier cultural heritage site from the late Middle Ages. (Special, short ecumenical services are sometimes held here for our passengers). 
Next door, Trondenes Historical Center offers an in-depth exhibit complete with sounds, scents and objects that capture the region’s dramatic span from the Viking Age and Middle Ages to the present. The bus then takes us across Hinnøya, an island, where you can enjoy views of the beautiful fjords, steep mountains and fertile farms. 
You then cross the Gullesfjord by ferry and have coffee, tea and freshly baked cakes. Ferry along the Sigerfjord and in Sortland, the centre of the Vesterålen islands, you rejoin the Hurtigruten ship. Idyllic in summer, picture perfect in winter, this is an eventful tour filled with scenery and Viking culture.

Lofoten Islands (9B)
Lofoten is a group of islands off the west coast, north of the Arctic Circle – at the 67th and 68th parallels. Throughout history, Lofoten has been the home and workplace of generations of fishermen.
The Lofot fishing season in spring is still vital and central to the economy and population here. Many people associate Lofoten with its precipitous, dramatic and often fabled mountains and picturesque fishing villages. However, Lofoten is so much more – quiet bays, white sandy beaches, sheltered fjords and perhaps surprisingly, expansive, green agricultural areas.
This is a remote part of the world but we make getting here a simple excursion for Hurtigruten passengers. Starting in the “Capital of Lofoten,” Svolvær you head to the well-known fishing village of Henningsvær.
It is said that the light in Lofoten is unlike any other place on earth, which is why artists from Norway and abroad have always come here. In Henningsvær, you will visit an art gallery showcasing several Norwegian artists’ interpretations of the beauty of the Lofoten archipelago.
There is also a slide show presentation and an opportunity to purchase artwork. Pictures may say more than a thousand words but they are no match for being in this picturesque and awe-inspiring landscape. So come aboard, find a good seat and enjoy the view.

Sea Eagle Safari
Wearing insulated overalls and with hot beverages in hand, stand on deck as the smaller boat leads the way – ahead of the Hurtigruten ship and into Trollfjord. (You follow the Hurtigruten ship when it turns around in the narrow fjord – a magnificent sight. Please note: Hurtigruten sails into the Trollfjord from the end of April).
The eagle safari commences when you leave the Trollfjord. It actually starts with the gulls. Like screeching, white fighter aircraft, the gulls swoop in for fish right from our hands. Keep your camera ready, as the aloof sharpeyed eagles become curious.
You then pass through a narrow sound with steep mountains to one side. This is where the sea eagles dwell and soon they come to share in the banquet. Watch these beautiful, rare birds of prey circle the boat with wings outstretched before they dive towards the sea. It is all so close, so wild and so fantastic that some passengers forget to take pictures.
If you are lucky, you may observe up to five or six majestic birds within an hour. Then set course for Svolvær, arriving at the quay about five minutes ahead of the Hurtigruten. In less than two hours, you will have an amazing experience that will stay with you long after you return home.

RIB Adventure - Lofoten (9E)
A speed filled excursion with RIB-boats into the fantastic Lofoten archipelago.Our experienced skippers take us to a lagoon with white sandy beaches surrounded by small islands and skerries that protect it from the mighty ocean outside.
There is a good chance to see sea eagles, Europe’s largest bird of prey up close. After a short photo stop, we continue to the fishing village of Skrova, where we stop to have a snack and learn about Skrova, known for exporting salmon all over the whole world. The statue “The fisherman’s wife” will greet us when we return to the harbour in Svolvær to re-join our ship.

UNESCO Vega Archipelago (10B)
The Vega Archipelago was inscribed on UNESCO’s World Heritage List in 2004. The islands received this status due to the unique interaction between the eider ducks and the islanders.
A tour around the islands provides an insight into life in these small villages. These islands bear testimony to a distinctively frugal way of life based on fishing and the harvesting of down from eider ducks in an inhospitable environment.
Leaving Sandnessjøen travel by boat through the island kingdom of Vesterøyan, passing small villages on the way to the fishing village of Nes, situated on the main island of Vega. Enjoy a visit to the “E-house”, a museum and documentation centre for eider ducks where you can learn about the historic tradition of keeping eider ducks as domestic animals and experience the landscape of the eider ducks and how the down was cleaned and made into quilts.
At Nes, there is also a café and you will stay on the island for an hour before returning through the Vega archipelago to Brønnøysund to rejoin the Hurtigruten.

Trondheim & Nidaros Cathedral (11A)
This special excursion enables you to discover the Viking town of Trondheim – Norway’s first capital. It was founded around 997 by Viking King Olav Tryggvason, who named it Nidaros.
By Norwegian standards, Trondheim is a large city but preserves the charms and intimacies of a small town. Trondheim is full of colorful contrasts: monastic ruins, impressive wooden buildings, colorful wharves and a beautiful red bridge dating from 1861. The Kristiansten Fortress, from the 1600s, stands guard above the town.
Trondheim is home to a world-famous research and educational community, modern sports facilities, lively nightlife and countless services. The bus takes you on a relaxing tour of the town and makes a stop at Utsikten (“The View”) to admire the capital from up high.
Sightseeing in Trondheim is incomplete without a visit to its premier cultural treasure, Nidaros Cathedral. The Atlantic Road is one of Norway’s most visited tourist destinations and the winner of the “Engineering Feat of the Century” award in 2005. The road is 8.2 km long and is built on a total of 8 bridges in picturesque surroundings.
Beginning with a short city sightseeing tour in the klippfish town of Kristiansund, our tour then heads to Averøy and on to visit Kvernes Stave Church, which was believed to have been built in the early 13th century. This church, a one-nave stave church of the Møre-type, is beautifully located on Averøy.
Afterwards, make a stop at the local tavern Bjarmars Favorittkro, where you can enjoy the speciality of the house – Bacalao made from local ingredients, served with bread, followed by dessert, coffee/tea.
Continue along the Atlantic Road, taking in all the sights in this breathtaking area with a chance for a photo stop, before reaching Molde where the excursion will finish with a short sightseeing tour of this ‘City of Roses’.

Bergen City Sightseeing (12A)
Bergen is an international city with small town charm surrounded by seven mountains. Enjoy a 2 hour guided tour which will take you through the picturesque streets of Bergen and past all of the well-known and famous sites including: Nordnes peninsula, Håkon’s Hall and Rosenkrantz Tower, St. Mary’s Church, Bergen Harbour and the famous fish market.
Your knowledgeable guides will provide you with an overview of Bergen’s history and development from it’s founding in 1070 to present day and will escort you on a short walk through the UNESCO World Heritage famous houses of “Bryggen” (the wharf).
The tour starts from the Hurtigruten Terminal as soon as your ship arrives and disembarkation is completed. After the tour you will be taken to your local Bergen hotel or ongoing destination (e.g. the railway station).
