West Sweden Hotels

A selection of carefully selected hotels across West Sweden.

Marstrands Havshotellet

The Islands of Koön and Marstrand are located just 45mins from Gothenburg. Koön is connected to the mainland by a bridge, however Marstrand is a car free island connected by a regular cable ferry across Marstrand Harbour. You will stay at the new Marstrands Havshotell (Sea Hotel) on Koön in the harbour area. The suites offer sea views and entrance to the spa is included in your stay.

Marstrand has been fought over for centuries by the Swedes, Norwegians and the Danish. The peace treaty signed in 1658 finally made Marstrand Swedish. It is home to beautiful houses, an impressive fortress and cosy cafes Local activities include boat & fishing trips, sailing, quay side bars & restaurants and great walks. Marstrand is a place for pleasure, a place to love for its culture, history, beauty and legends.

Salt and Sill - West Sweden

Sweden's first floating hotel (opened 2008) is located on the island of Klädesholmen (Herring Island), offering peaceful and picturesque views across the famous Bohuslän Archipelago, just 45mins from Gothenburg. There are 23 rooms (including one suite) in six two-storey buildings on floating pontoons.

The hotel has been built to complement the highly successful Salt & Sill restaurant, accredited by Taste of West Sweden. The hotel blends into the sea environment by creating a reef and haven for marine life to flourish underneath and around the pontoons supporting the hotel.

Storahotellet Bryggan - Fjällbacka

As the name ‘Bryggan’ suggests this hotel is located by the water’s edge in Fjällbacka harbour. During the summer Fjällbacka is a bustling archipelago town with the activity centred around the harbour. At other times of year it is a quiet village and a place for relaxation and reflection.

Storahotellet Bryggen boasts 32 ensuite rooms in two different styles. The Newport Rooms have a seaside theme and the storytelling rooms give us an insight into the life of Captain Klassen as he travelled around the world. Wifi is available throughout the hotel.

Strandflickorna (The Beach Girls)

A classic guest-house style hotel with just 21 rooms in the town of Lysekil. Dating from the early 1900's this old building is bursting with charm and character - Bettina and Åsa are your welcoming hosts. In 2013 six double / twin rooms were added to the main house, along with a new conservatory.

Our favourite room is The Sea Studio, a spacious cabin by the water's edge, just a 2min walk from the main building through the garden (some steep steps). Here you will find a private sun / bathing terrace and large panoramic windows with views across the fjord. There is no TV - that would spoil the view!

From this central location you can explore all West Sweden and the Bohuslän archipelago has to offer from the marine reserve at the Koster Islands in the north to the bustling sailing hub of Marstrand in the south. Villa Sjötorp - West Sweden

Villa Sjötorp has just just ten charming traditional and individually decorated rooms with excellent personal service. During the long summer days, meals are served in the garden or on the terrace offering breathtaking views across an outstanding west coast archipelago. A path leads down to a small beach and at the centre of the garden is a large tree from which hangs a swing that even the most grown up among you will not be able resist sitting on and soaking up the atmosphere. Villa Sjötorp is located in the heart of West Sweden's stunning coastline. Gothenburg is less than 60mins away. All the rooms are located in the main building. The restaurant is well known across the west coast is accredited by the Taste Of West Sweden guide.

The garden swing is famous locally. You'll soon find out why! A myriad of islands and fjords are on the door step for you to explore along with small picturesque fishing villages and beaches. Close by you'll find Nordens Ark (home to Scandinavian animals) and the ancient rock carvings in Tanumshede. Sea kayking is one of the best ways to see the archipelago.

Weather Islands - West Sweden

Sweden's most westerly islands are rugged, raw and incredibly beautiful. Unprotected from nature’s elements this collection of islands lie some 10 nautical miles from the mainland. During the 18th and 19th centuries the need for greater safety at sea meant these inhospitable islands became home to an extended lighthouse and pilot service. In 1965 the lighthouse was fully automated and the pilots returned to the main land.

Today there is an excellent restaurant complemented by a comfortable inn with hot tubs and sauna looking out across the small harbour. The only way to reach the islands is by a special boat service and you may be lucky enough to see some seals. The journey takes approx. 30mins.

You are offered a warm welcome as you step ashore in the sheltered harbour and then you will check in to your room. Standard rooms have shared bathroom facilities and the superior rooms are all ensuite – please ask us for an upgrade. Bring a pair of comfortable walking shoes as you will have plenty of time to follow the many paths zig-zagging across the islands.
