Imagine watching the roaring sea and the austere Bohuslän nature while you sit in an easy chair in front of the fire. Or when you head down to the jetty for a dip or a boat ride to fish for mackerel or cod in spring, summer or autumn. These Archipelago Houses are available all year round but are especially popular during the summer in June, July and August. The kitchen, dining area and living room are on the first floor, have an open floor plan and magnificent views of the sea.

There are 14 houses decorated and equipped to a high standard. From the living room all houses have a wonderful panoramic view of Kyrkesund and the ”West Sea”. Outside the houses you will also find spacious terraces that bask in the afternoon sun.

Set on the island of Tjörn (a 50 minute drive from Gothenburg), stay in your own beautifully decorated and well equipped cosy island cottage. These cottages offer an open plan living room with panoramic views of Kyrkesund and the West Sea. There are so many islands to explore from this retreat, and just on your doorstep are the famous Salt and Sill restaurant (Taste of West Sweden accredited restaurant) and Käringön’s Oyster Bar.

On the island and beyond, visitors can enjoy a vast array of fun activities, whether sailing, sea kayaking, diving, island hopping by ferry or walking on the beach. Quaint fishing villages are scattered across the area which are ideal places to stop for a look around, soak up the surroundings, taste fresh seafood and dip toes in the water while sitting on a jetty.

• Sea kayaking is one of the best ways to weave between the islands and get up close and personal with the archipelago. Simply Sweden offers day trips (and longer tours) from Lysekil.
• The neighbouring island of Tjörn is home to the Pilane sculpture park with a new exhibition every year.
• Tjörn is also home to the famous Salt and Sill restaurant and the Water Colour Museum.
• There are numerous boat trips to choose from but Simply Sweden recommends an outing to Fjällbacka and The Weather Islands.
• You are in the heart of the Bohuslän archipelago. There are beautiful walks and numerous locations to rent bicycles.
• Nordens Ark is home to 80 different species. It is a non-profit organisation helping support endangered species and give them a future.
• UNESCO has recognised the ancient rock carvings at Tanum and the visitors centre is extremely interesting.
• The beautiful archipelago island of Käringön is also well worth a visit.
• Visit the car free island and sailing capital of West Sweden, Marstrand.
