Stockholm Activities 2012These activities have been awarded 'Natures Best', Sweden's mark of Eco tourism. They offer some of the best opportunities to get out into the archipelago or witness the proximity of wildlife and nature to the centre of a major city. Kayaking Day in the Archipelago
If you could do just one nature excursion in Stockholm, then you should kayak in the outer archipelago. This watery world consists of thousands of uninhabited small islands which are among the wildest areas in Europe. This day tour is at an easy tempo to suit both beginners and more experienced alike. Most who join this tour have limited or no previous experience. The techniques are easy to learn and after a short training session you set off on your journey of discovery. Our tour guides are experienced paddlers with excellent knowledge of the archipelago, its history, flora and fauna. They know their way to the finest islands, skerries and inlets. Surprisingly few visitors come here and it is easy for us to find a deserted island to take a swim and stop for a rest with a well-prepared lunch. At 0845 you take the bus out into the archipelago. After 45mins you reach the end of the bus line and your guide will be there to meet you. Taxi boat to the kayak base for your kayaking tour. Afternoon tea before returning to Stockholm city between 6 & 7pm. Price £120 per person Thursday - Sunday 28 June - 2 September. Includes qualified & experienced guide, kayaking equipment (stable 1 or 2 man kayaks incl buoyancy aids), hamper lunch & snacks, taxi boat to / from kayak base. Min age 12yrs (family tours can be arranged separately), must be able to swim at least 200m. We do have special tours for 55yrs+. Bus transfer not included in price. Overnight tours Please follow this link for overnight kayaking holidays in Stockholm Sailing Archipelago Sail Escape A sailing escape through one of the worlds most amazing archipelagoes under the guidance of an experienced skipper, who will also act as your guide. Some 24,000 islands make up this archipelago and we haven't counted the Finnish side! A boat is the best way to explore as many islands are uninhabited and the Swedish right of public access allows everyone to explore. No prior sailing experience is required and you can even make suggestions about where to visit. The weather also plays a part in distance travelled! Our normal day tours start just 15 minutes by commuter train from central Stockholm. From here you will pass the narrow straight of Baggensstäket, with an interesting historical background, the fashionable suburbs of Saltsjöbaden and Älgö before reaching the wilder and uninhabited islands of Ingaröfjärden. Here you can chose one of the islands to take a swim, explore ashore and have lunch. In the end it is the wind and you that decides the program. Price £160 per adult Available Fri-Mon from 8Jun to 3Sep. Standard day tours start at 9am and are 8-9 hours long. Lunch and snacks. Min age 12yrs. For families we recommend the private tour below.
