Important information about skiing in Åre

Why book with Simply Sweden?
Simply Sweden offer unrivalled flexibility, in depth knowledge of Sweden and peace of mind. We recommend you add a couple of nights in Stockholm at the beginning of your holiday and travel by train to Åre. There are several advantages. Stockholm is an amazing city at any time of year and the view of the mountains from the train is incredible. Åre station is in the centre of Åre so no need for long transfers to the resort. Looking for a more traditional Lapland experience? We can include almost any of our Lapland Holidays in your skiing holiday to Åre.

As we tailor make all our holidays we are able to include Stockholm and / or Lapland in many of our skiing holidays in Åre. All you have to do is ask!

Why book your family holiday with Simply Sweden?
Here at Simply Sweden we have travelled with our own families across Sweden and have skied in many locations. Our own children have taken part in the highly professional ski lessons that we provide & learnt to ski on the family friendly slopes of the Swedish mountains. We can offer self catering accommodation in spacious, child friendly & convenient apartments or hotels close to the slopes with adventure pools and childrens clubs. Åre is so much more than your traditional skiing holiday!

Why do we not offer a half board option?
Åre has a wide range of restaurants to choose from and offering a half / full board option would limit your ability to fully explore & enjoy this picturesque mountain town.

Piste opening dates 2011/12
From 9 December as many lifts as possible will open depending on conditions. It is worth noting that the 'top' lifts (Åreskutan) have previously opened around 5 February and is subject to the conditions. The final skiing is planned for 1 May.

Night skiing under flood lights
Lift VM8 (22) is open 1800-2000 on Mondays, Wednesdays & Fridays between 16Dec & 16Mar. It is also open every night between 16DEc & 2Jan (not 31Dec) and 20Feb & 4Mar


Resort height
380m to 1274m. This is not as high as your traditional Alpine resorts but Åre has a good snow record due to the northerly latitude.

Ski bus
Runs approx. every hour between the 4 centres of Åre. Free for those holding a ski pass.

Children & families
Sweden has some of the best children / family skiing facilities available. The english speaking ski school is highly experienced and professional. The resort, especially around The Bear Park (Björnparken) gives children the opportunity to practice their skills in a safe & entertaining environment away from the main stream skiers. There is also plenty of after ski entertainment specifically for children including adventure pools, games and toys for all ages.

Åre Village
This is where you will find the majority of hotels, restaurants & bars. You can ski right into the village square. You will find cosy cafes, a selection of bars and delightful restaurants. If you have left something at home, don't worry, there is a good selection of shops so you will always find the perfect replacement.

Nightlife
Often called 'Little Stockholm', as Sweden's largest ski resort you will find some of Sweden's best known artists performing in Åre. With a wide selection of bars & nightclubs to suite all tastes you are bound to find somewhere to party.
