Introduction to Åre
Welcome to the warm, traditional and Scandinavian feel of the Skandes (the mountain range between Sweden and Norway). Åre is Sweden's leading ski resort. High in the Swedish mountains and close to the Norwegian border, Åre is now renowned the world over following the Skiing World Cup in 2007.
There are many reasons to choose Åre over a traditional Alpine resort With a northerly latitude you can expect long skiing seasons and snow sure slopes. There is also a chance of seeing the Northern Lights. With a vast array of non-skiing activities to choose from including snowmobiling, huskies, ice driving, and some of the best x-country skiing in the world, Åre will keep you entertained when the slopes are closed.. Boutique shops, cosy cafes, lively bars and popular restaurants line the streets of Åre village. Although quieter during the week, at the weekends and during peak holiday times, Åre has a lively after ski scene.
Simply Sweden has selected accommodation in Åre Village but it is worth pointing out that the ski resort of Åre is spread over 4 areas. Duved, Tegefjäll and Årebjörnen make up the other 3 areas. Åre village is where it happens and the slopes directly above Åre offer great intermediate and advanced skiing. Beginners are well catered for in the easily accessible area of Rodkullen by cleverly integrated ski lifts or the free ski bus. Children are especially welcome at Björnparken (The bear park) 15mins by ski bus from the centre of Åre.
Åre is so much more than just a skiing holiday.
