Introduction to ICEHOTEL

ICEHOTEL is situated in the picturesque village of Jukkasjärvi, 200 kilometers north of the Arctic Circle in Swedish Lapland, on the shores of the River Torne, which flows freely through the unspoiled wilderness. As winter approaches every Autumn the pure clear water and gentle movement creates crystal clear ice up to 1 metre thick. This unique building material is the source of ICEHOTEL, ICEchurch and the Absolute ICEbar. In fact the entire ICEHOTEL is on loan from the mighty river Torne.

The surprise for winter 2012/13 is the introduction of the Northern Lights Suites - spectacular rooms of ICE with unique ICEart and ICEsculptures where the Northern Lights have been recreated on the ICEceiling.

This year the world famous and original ICEHOTEL is creating yet another unique architectural masterpiece, constructed purely from ICE. Construction will begin in November 2012, some time after the first ice has formed and the first layer of magical snow has fallen. The doors to ICEHOTEL will open on Friday 7 December 2012 and building work continues into early January.
