Whale Watching at Whale Island & bring in the new year on scenic Malangen Fjord in Northern Norway.
Trine and Alf Risvik live on the northern tip of Whale Island on the shores of Whale Sound. Between November and January humpback whales, orcas and harbour porpoises come to feast in their back garden. This father and daughter team are joined by a marine biologist from Tromsø University to give you in-depth knowledge of this wonderful region and these intriguing creatures.
This holiday features a small and personal whale watching excursion using a durable RIB (rigid inflatable boat) and you will be provided with a thermal floatation suit.
Malangen is a fabulous location from which to experience the magic of the Norwegian Fjords and a spectacular northern lights show, should Mother Nature be in the mood.
Nature based activities form an important part of the Malangen experience. Excellent seasonal adventures take place at Camp Nikka, Malangen’s very own wilderness camp, just a short walk from hotel. This holiday includes husky sledding, snowshoeing and northern lights activities to make the most of your stay in the remote north. This is a genuine mountain and marine environment with the local mountains exceeding 1000m.

Just 1hr30 from Tromsø on the Malangen Fjord is Malangen Resort, a purpose built location in idyllic surroundings. All rooms offer a high standard of accommodation and spectacular views; it’s a great place to relax, soak up the silence of nature and take part in some traditional winter activities.
Standard Rooms
There are 8 standard hotel rooms located in the main building. All rooms are ensuite.
Superior Rooms
With just 2 superior rooms availability is limited. These are located in the main building and are more spacious than the standard rooms.
Sea View Apartment
The most common room with 76 two bedroom (1 double / twin and 1 x bunk bed) apartments. There is comfortable lounge with balcony / terrace.
Standard Cabin
Stand-alone cabins with 2 or 3 bedrooms over 2 floors. Open plan living area and outdoor terrace from which to enjoy the views. All cabins are slightly different.
Deluxe Cabin
Spacious 3-bedroom cabins with 1 terrace and 1 upstairs balcony. Most have a fire place. All cabins are slightly different.
Other information
All meals are served at the restaurant in the main building, boasting a fjord view. Wifi is only available in the main building. A small souvenir shop is located in reception. There are no other shops within walking distance.

Orca and Humpback Whale Safari
Father and daughter team (Trine and Alf) with whales in their back garden on the northern tip of Whale Island just outside Tromsø. There are also good chances of seeing sea eagles and seals on this tour. A whale biologist will join you on the transfer to Whale Island and share their expert knowledge.
Your whale adventure is by RIB (rigid inflatable boat - warm floatation suit included). The RIB is not suitable for those with back problems. You can also choose a Colin Archer sturdy wooden boat which must be requested at time of booking.

Northern Lights Watch
Malangen Resort is located in one of the most visited Northern Lights hotspots in the Tromsø area. ”The Watch” enhances your opportunity of seeing the lights. Prepare for the journey with a briefing about this natural phenomenon and the current conditions before we set off on a chase to wherever the light takes you. Our experienced guides can help you to set your cameras to capture this magical show on the sky on the best way possible and will continue the chase long after you fall asleep. If they spot the light, we will wake you up with a magical Sami song and resume the chase.
1200 - Sunday 31st December
3hr Husky Excursion
A small intimate group of eager huskies is waiting for you just 10mins from Malangen. Following a safety briefing about how to drive your own husky team you set off in in pairs with a chance to change drivers halfway through the excursion. A delicious hot light meal is served afterwards by an open fire.
0930 - Monday 1st Janaury
3hr30 Snowshoe Excursion
Follow the footsteps of the world famous Norwegian explorers into the untouched wilderness to experience something unlike you’ve ever even dreamed of before – the beautiful silence of the snowy forest, the scent of the smoke from the open campfire and if lucky, maybe even a glimpse of a willow grouse or a red fox in their daily routines. A great way to explore!
