Flying into or out of Tromsø is impressive as you fly over the islands and between the snow capped mountains. Tromsø centre is just a short transfer from the airport (15mins) and the hotels are close to or on the quayside in the very centre of Tromsø.
Tromsø is rich in culture and history. Admire the scenery from the view point at Mount Storsteinen, enjoy a concert at the Arctic Cathedral or indulge in local history, culture and nature at Tromsø museum.
Tromsø is directly under the Northern Lights activity corridor and there are numerous northern lights activities so get out there and explore this wonderful region. Our recommendations include a northern lights photography course with a local professional and a two day (one night) husky expedition in the glorious mountains around Tromsø which we have included in this holiday.

This is a 30 hour out of this world husky experience is some of the most amazing and breath-taking scenery on earth, with some of the most respected husky guides in Norway. This is a hands on wilderness experience and is ideal for those who want to be at one with nature and enjoy the outdoor way of life.
You will be collected from the centre of Tromsø at approx. 10am for a 25min transfer to the husky kennels. Before the expedition starts you get a full introduction into husky sledding before heading out towards the mountains. Depending on weather you will drive your own team of huskies for 5-8 hours before setting up camp.
After taking care of the dogs you have the chance to settle down and enjoy a wilderness meal under the night sky. You’re in one of the best locations to see the Northern Lights so keep your camera close by and a spare battery in your pocket!
After breakfast you will head further into the mountains and enjoy pristine beauty and unspoilt wilderness. Possible wildlife sightings along the trail include fox, eagles, arctic and snowshoe hares, moose and reindeers. Learn more about husky sledding and don't be surprised if you get close to your four legged friends as Alaskan huskies are very friendly! You will be back at your hotel around 5pm.
Accommodation & Information
You will sleep in a 2 person arctic tent. Meals included are 2 x lunch, 1 x breakfast and 1 x evening meal. A reasonable degree of fitness is required. You will be provided with all the specialist equipment including warm outer clothing (hat, thermal suit, mittens and boots). You will need to provide your own thermal layers.

Whale Watching
Orca and Humpback Whale Safari
Father and daughter team (Trine and Alf) with whales in their back garden on the northern tip of Whale Island just outside Tromsø. There are also good chances of seeing sea eagles and seals on this tour. A whale biologist will join you on the transfer to Whale Island and share their expert knowledge.
Your whale adventure is on board Colin Archer sturdy wooden boat or by RIB (rigid inflatable boat - warm floatation suit included). The RIB is not suitable for those with back problems.

Price: £117pp including warm drink, marshmallows and use of a tripod.
Sami & Cultural Excursions
Sami & Reindeer Overnight Excursion
Try reindeer sledding, the oldest means of transportation in the north, on the island of Kvaløya. The location has little artificial light and excellent conditions to look for the Northern Lights. Instead of heading back to the city centre where you might miss a late-night dance from the Aurora, stay on at this good location in a traditional Sami lavvu (tent), sleeping on reindeer skins in winter-insulated sleeping bags. Traditional sami evening meal and breakfast included.
