Exclusive to your family or group of 8 or more! The magic of the frozen Archipelago in the Bay of Bothnia, the 1,312 islands and the extraordinary pack ice.
A highly recommended winter holiday for groups and families of between 8 and 16 guests.
Pine Bay Lodge (Furufjärden in Swedish) is the perfect location to for a short break under the northern lights corridor in Swedish Lapland. Located in the heart of the Luleå Archipelago in the Bay of Bothnia on Sweden’s east coast, this cosy lodge offers privacy, exclusivity, attention to detail and great opportunities to explore the unique environment of this ice-covered archipelago and the Boreal Forest.
Like all our holidays in Swedish Lapland your activities are an important part of your stay. Pine Bay Lodge, the surrounding forests and the vast frozen archipelago are the unique base for these activities. As a gentle introduction we do recommend the Nordic Winter Skills excursion, which will give you the basic skills required to enjoy your stay in this extreme environment.
The archipelago is made up of 1300 islands and just 100 permanent residents. During the winter months, the sea ice can be up to 1m thick and form an ice-wall (pack ice) 10m high. A simple comparison is two miniature tectonic plates colliding. The sapphire-blue ice is particularly impressive under the low-lying midday sun.
No one quite knows how the pack ice will look, or where it will be, from day to day. The size, shape and location are determined by the prevailing wind and invisible sea currents. All your activities at Pine Bay will be exclusive to your group and options include snowshoes, husky sledding, snowmobiles and ice fishing.
