Lapland Guest House - February 2018

February 2018 half term. The perfect family break in Swedish Lapland - cosy cabin, northern lights and a fairy tale location.

Overview

Johan and Eva are your hosts at Kangos Guest House. They offer plenty of warmth as the fire roars in the corner, the candles give out a soothing yellow glow and the long cold winters draw in, snow silently falls and temperatures drop to well below zero. This is a small insight into a genuine way of life deep 150 miles inside the Arctic Circle.

Johan has grown up in the wilderness of Swedish Lapland and is perfectly at home in an environment that is completely alien to most visitors to his guest house. As an experienced guide he will walk you through each step, teaching you the tricks of the trade to thrive in Swedish Lapland. You can be certain you will end your holiday feeling refreshed, more knowledgeable and eager to see more of this wonderful location.

Explore the virgin snow by husky, snowmobile or snowshoe and step inside the life of the indigenous Sami who are traditionally nomadic as they herd reindeer on seasonal migrations from forest to mountain. Civilisation is many kilometres away and wildlife runs free; moose and reindeer are common sights and you don’t have to go far to see the northern lights; Kangos Guest House and the immediate surroundings provide the perfect backdrop for your holiday photos.

During the evenings relax in the Jacuzzi and enjoy a sauna by the river.

A cluster of small traditional stugor (cabins), up to 210 yrs old, surround the main guest house, which melt into their surroundings on the banks of the Lainio River. There are 9 rooms across 4 cabins, the Annex, Bear´s Den, Owl´s Nest and the new ‘Viking Cabin’. All rooms are individually decorated each with their own charm and character. A traditional wood fired sauna and a warm Jacuzzi are cleverly hidden by the river.

Kangos is a quaint little village, typical of this remote area of Swedish Lapland, which when blanketed in pure white snow, provides a quiet and relaxing escape in a winter wonderland, off the beaten tourist trail, with the locals for company.
