Fjords to Mountain

A 14 night fly drive holiday along the Atlantic Road to Ålesund. Admire the Geiranger Fjord, drive along Trollstigen and explore the mountains at Nordre Ekre and Røros.

Overview

A glorious fly drive holiday exploring the spectacular fjords around Kristiansund, Ålesund and Geiranger before heading into the scenic mountains to enjoy the food, isolation and relaxation at Nordre Ekre and some small town culture of Røros.

Kristiansund and Ålesund
Kristiansund is a small city made up of 4 land areas, Kirkelandet (the centre of Kristiansund), Gomalandet, Nordlandet and Innlandet all connected by the famous Sundbåt, the world’s oldest ferry service which has been in service since 1876. The Grip Archipelago is a popular tourist destination with unique architecture and Norway's smallest stave church. The Atlantic Road starts with the Atlantic Sea Tunnel in Kristiansund.
Ålesund is located on the east coast of Norway half way between Trondheim and Bergen. Famous for its Art Nouveau architecture, the city of Ålesund was practically re-built between 1904 and 1907 following a huge fire that destroyed all the wooden buildings in the city. It is now a popular tourist destination with a wide selection of deep fjords and high peaks in the Sunnmøre Alps. Kayaking, wildlife safaris and cycling are popular activities.

The National Tourist Routes - Atlantic Road, Trollstigen and Rondane
There are 18 national tourist routes in Norway. They have been carefully selected for their spectacular scenery, history and character. The Atlantic Road, Trollstigen and Rondane are perfect examples of the natural beauty Norway has to offer by the coast, around the fjords and high in the mountains.
Along the Atlantic Road you are exposed to the elements of the Atlantic Ocean. Island hop through Hustadvika bay between Kårvåg and Bud, 36km of dramatic coastal scenery. Trollstigen is famous for its 11 hairpin bends and originally opened in 1936. Stretching 106km from Langevatn, on the Strynefjell plateau, to Sogge Bridge in the Romsdalen valley, it also includes a ferry across the Nordals Fjord. The Rondane National Tourist Route runs along the western edge of the Rondane National Park (Norway's first national park in 1962), a 75km journey through impressive geology, nature and culture and you may also see reindeer.

Geiranger
The Geiranger Fjord was added to the UNESCO world heritage list for its outstanding natural beauty in 2005. At the Fjord Centre in Geiranger learn about the unique and rich history, the colourful people and the fabulous natural scenery of the area. Explore the fjord by boat or kayak, walk through the mountains or visit one of many popular view points.

Nordre-Ekre and Røros
Nordre Ekre Farm Hotel is a wonderful stop on this holiday. Small and personal and the perfect insight into local life in the Norwegian mountains, with an outstanding restaurant, a relaxing atmosphere and a wide selection of local activities including two national parks.
Røros is an ancient town close to the Swedish border with over 300 years of copper mining history. 2000 wooden houses are tightly packed into the centre of Røros and it was granted UNESCO recognition in 1980. It is a rich cultural town recognised for its sustainable tourism program with a famous church, local crafts and an indigenous Sami population herding reindeer.
