Sea Kayaking - West Sweden

** New for summer 2013 **

Sea kayaking in West Sweden offers one of the best ways to explore this stunning coastline. This self guided tour has been tried and tested by Simply Sweden and has been put together with the help of our professional, experienced and highly qualified partners in West Sweden.

Peace and quiet, healthy activity, fresh sea air and an archipelago dream. You paddle among this amazing granite landscape and thousands of islands and sleep in cabins or hotels by the sea. Seafood is an important feature of this special holiday together with Swedish history, culture and marine life. You stand good chances of seeing seals, jumping fish and other marine wildlife.

During the kayaking you will try a new kitchen every night. You will be served a 2 course dinner. Every restaurant has their own specialties but each one tries to serve as much locally produced food as possible. Breakfast is included in the trip and for lunch you compose your own from the breakfast table - a Swedish tradition we use in the mountains.

Itinerary
Day 1

Fly from the UK to Gothenburg. Stay right in the centre of Gothenburg and experience Swedens' second city and the gateway to the West Coast.

Hotel Vanilla - Gothenburg

A small, personal & comfortable hotel right in the very heart of Gothenburg. With 32 unique rooms and cafe famous for it's home baked produce you can't go far wrong staying here. This hotel comes with a high recommendation from our colleagues at the Columbus Hotel in Stockholm. Hotel Vanilla is close to the cathedral in Gothenburg, the main shopping area and the extremely useful tourist office. It's also just a short walk from central station.

Day 2
Lysekil and Ramsvik

Afternoon public transport bus (approx 1hr50) to the kayak center in Lysekil. Introductory meeting with the kayaking experts, issue of kayaking equipment and kayaks and transfer to Ramsvik for the start of this kayaking adventure.
The cabin for the night is just a few meters from the waters’ edge and you have access to sauna and a swim in the ocean from the lovely sandy beach. There is the chance to test your kayaking skills before departure the following morning and seek any advice from the guides before they head back to Lysekil. Enjoy a 2 course dinner with a stunning view over the sea. The area around Ramsvik is also a nature reserve with a special landscape. The red granite area is famous for its wonderful walking paths. The cabins are cosy with private en suite facilities.

Day 3
Ramsvik to Smögen

Hearty breakfast and make up your packed lunch. The first part of the trip is very sheltered as you paddle through the Sotenäs channel. During the day you will explore the area around Smögen – a well known fishing village known for its red huts by the sea. Take lunch as you please but we recommend the island of Tryggö with an interesting history from the viking age.
Arrive at Sealodge in the centre of Smögen during the afternoon. At Sealodge you enjoy a delightful 2 course evening meal from the award winning restaurant. You also have access to the sauna, a great way to relax the muscles after a day kayaking. Sealodge is situated right at the waters edge with a stunning view to the old light house on the island of Hållö.
The rooms are lovely and the beds are like a dream. The rooms are not en suite but bathrobe and slippers are included. The rooms have a private sink but bathrooms are in the corridor right outside your room. This is a great location, with amazing food - well worth a visit!

Day 4
Smögen to Lysekil

Hearty breakfast and make up your packed lunch. Continue your tour towards Lysekil with some island hopping. Perhaps a visit to Hållö, Malmön and others. On this part of your holiday you are likely to encounter some ocean swell and curious wildlife such as seals and seabirds. Using the shelter of the islands is recommended as you cross the Malmö Fjord.
Hotel Strand in Lysekil is one of a kind. The hotel itself is situated in a big old wooden house close to the water. The Strand Hotel is just a few minutes walk from the town center and only seven steps from the ocean. All rooms are with private bathrooms.
After a hot shower your 2 course evening meal is served and the rest of the night is free for you to look around in the center of Lysekil. You might want to enjoy a bear or a glass of wine in one of the many restaurants in town, or take a walk along the waters edge.

Day 5
Lysekil to Vann

During the last day of kayaking the scenery changes from a sea feeling to fiord and wilderness surroundings as you pass through the nature reserve and islands of Stora and Lilla Börnö in the Gullmarnfjord. You paddle beside dramatic cliff formations inhabited by falcons. The tour ends at VANN SPA hotel and you get the chance to soften your body in the SPA . You might want to try the scented pool, the sauna or a facial treatment or massage (treatments are not included). The SPA and pools have a stunning view to the fiord. All rooms are en suite.
